The SRL Standard

SA certification means the helmet and intercom went through the ECE homologation process as one unit. The SHOEI Neotec 3, GT-Air 3 and J-Cruise 3 were crash-tested with the SRL3 physically installed. The certification you see on your helmet covers everything, including the intercom inside it.

The Universal Route
Independent certification. Not a joint process.
UA requires both the helmet and the intercom to carry independent certification, and the intercom must meet strict criteria around size, weight and placement in crash-sensitive areas. It's a valid route, but a more complex one. At the time of writing, only two UA-certified intercoms are available in the UK, and many popular options have yet to achieve it.

ECE 22.06 is the most rigorous motorcycle helmet safety standard in history. It introduced a new requirement: that any intercom fitted to a certified helmet must itself be tested as part of that helmet, under impact, rotational force and placement conditions.
SA certification means the Sena SRL3 and your SHOEI helmet went through that process together. The homologation on your helmet covers the whole system, intercom included. There's no uncertainty, no grey area, and nothing to question. Your certification is complete.
