Which Visor Fits Your Helmet?

Road legal vs. not for road use. 

Every visor listing on shoeiuk.com clearly states whether it is road legal. This is important to understand before purchasing.

Road legal visors meet ECE-R 22.06 certification and have a minimum light transmission of 80%. They can be used at any time of day or night on public roads in the UK. Clear visors and most light smoke visors fall into this category.

Not for road use visors. including all mirrored, spectra, and dark smoke visors, have light transmission below the legal minimum for road use. In the UK, it is illegal to ride on public roads with a visor that transmits less than 50% of light (and some constabularies apply a stricter 75% standard in practice). These visors are suitable for track days, photography, and private road use only.

If you are in any doubt, choose a clear visor.

What is Pinlock and do I need it?

Pinlock is an anti-fog lens system. A Pinlock-ready visor has two small pins on the inside, allowing a secondary Pinlock insert lens to be clipped in. The lens creates a sealed air gap that prevents fogging, particularly useful in cold, wet UK conditions.

All current SHOEI helmets use Pinlock EVO lenses. Several helmets include a Pinlock lens in the box. If your visor is Pinlock-ready (marked PN in the visor code), we recommend fitting a Pinlock lens for year-round riding.

Can I use a SHOEI visor from a previous helmet model?

SHOEI does not guarantee cross-compatibility between different helmet generations, even where visor codes appear similar. As a general rule:

• X-SPR Pro and NXR2 share the CWR-F2PN system : visors are interchangeable
• GT-Air, GT-Air 2, and GT-Air 3 all use CNS-1C : visors are interchangeable
• Glamster and Glamster 06 share the CPB-1 system
• J-Cruise 2 and J-Cruise 3 share the CJ-2 system
• Neotec 2 and Neotec 3 are NOT compatible : different visor systems (CNS-3 vs CNS-3C)
